Chapter 5- Economy: Contraindicated

Activities Contraindicated:
  • Fishing
  • Involvements with the Stock Market
  • Karaoke singing
  • Four & Five star hotel stays
  • Parrot speak of popular wisdoms
  • Inordinate interest in celebrities of the day
  • Managerial positions, or committee heads

It is a joyous experience to pluck a new catch, gasping and writhing, flipping and flapping out from the glistening waters ... it is the ecstasy of seizure, the surprised affirmation of the vision, it is the satisfaction of the ‘technique’, it is the feeling of the voluptuous abundance to be drawn from out there within a nature, yet huge and undefinable.

Many folk aspire to take for themselves - take for themselves without fully appreciating that which they are taking from. This tendency, in esotericism, often leads to the desire to be given many powers or spiritual bestowments, without having actually worked the development accordingly.

In the list abovementioned there is also cited “the inordinate interest in celebrities of the day” and once again this can be offered forth, that individuals all too easily can assume that the greatness of one may be transferred to another merely by association. We see this with the prominent spiritual leaders and magicians who manifest physical miracles which amaze the simplest of observers - who suggest, by material consequence, that somehow their own being can effectively enhance the life and being of their followers - whether collectively or individually - and they do feed upon the greediness of the eager many, who would take for themselves what life that they might take, without even asking the price in return.

When the ego of a man is complacent about the modernist trend toward collective thought it is usual that various associations and affiliations are formed which mistakenly elevate certain identities whilst missing those of a higher calling who are radiating yet far stronger impulses of will and being – albeit of the gentler and more kindly variety, however, there does come a ‘growing up’ within the ego’s own consciousness which begs for selfhood in preference to any other individual - no matter how grand or assuming they are.

This is such an important time for those who come to it - and interestingly enough, it is often soon challenged when that realization has first been made. We are tempted very quickly with ideas that promote the easy path, the easy take, the pluck from the ocean (which, by the way does not assist the economically deficient in their conceptualization of ‘wholeness’ when taking one from the many as in this case it is). Yes, we can be immature enough to presume that the magic dust or dandruff which falls upon us as the great ones pass, might actually transform us with a little of their splendor.

Of course there is, in part, an occult truth to this. The truth being that there is much which is spiritually and psychically conveyed to us simply by the associations which we choose to furbish our lives with. This can and does colour us considerably. But there are two further issues here than that: what are the long term results from such associations? Are they lasting, if not of our own making at some point? For example, are they progressive or deformative? Secondly, do we have the right to take that which we may hasten to have? It is therefore good practice to ask both of these things.

There are many attractive, glamorous and persuasive individuals to which we may feel by contrast quite belittled, and yet the reality is that much of this is veneerial only. One finds with those worldly souls who have advanced to the point of gathering so much around them (like a dust-collecting nebulae) that sadly the inner life can give way to the very maintenance of that very public self. To be recognized and worshipped by the world is but a terrible pain to the soul within - who eventually, in many ways, becomes quite crippled by it. So you see if we are searching a worldly individual for inner qualities to yet impart to us, one can remember that they themselves do need all the reserves that they have remaining.

Although eastern teachers have worked in pyramid sales regarding their support systems in the past, (and magicians likewise) there have been many changes since the advent of Christ. An individual who would feed from the synthesis of the vitality from a group-following becomes hollowed out - or more precisely sucked out, by the very vacuumous activity he has begun. These old ways have been replaced and now man to man, and Man to Christ, we are renewed. Teachers and students do not feed upon each other - they cannot even suckle. Can you realize in your own wholeness, as it is today, that there is no lesser or greater than your own self?
This is not to say that you are so privileged that you may do as you please against another; but it is to acknowledge that within Christ there is this equality which promotes His Spirit in you, as is also within your brother. We look forward to the day when the glamor of the material world is replaced with the verity of the soul and the auspicious grandeur of the spirit.
Involvements in the stock market are listed because of the nature of the investments and interests relating to a secondary economy with variables that do not pertain necessarily to reasonable cause. Industry is contaminated by these politics concerning stock transference, for they are the opportunistic cancers of the financial markets, who operate day-to-day with a terminal surrender.

Karaoke singing is usually conducted with a playfulness alongside its performance value ... and the man or woman who sings with the most basic of accompaniments is probably involved with the music in something of a less-than-serious manner. We could expect that a more formal approach to an instrument or singing might be regarded as serious, whereas the karaoke delivery is tending towards the frivolous end of the artistic endeavor?

For those who are economically maladjusted it would be preferable that they could experience a live band of musicians - each with their instrument’s part - playing together, instead of a recording. One of the gifts mentioned in relation to the virtue of economy is that of having a most useful and eloquent ability to converse. A wonderful attribute of being conversant is in that of the actual melody as expressed in the tone and inflection of the words imparted. The subtleties of speech are conveyed by that rhythm and music given to the speaker. Being conducive to the thought and the intent, the music of the words powerfully transfers much of the unspoken word.

And so, with no particular aspersion to karaoke itself (and the fun of it) it should be pointed out that by preference one could involve themselves in artistically orientated recitals (contemporary if so loved of course) rather than the singular experience of some crass rendition given to the mimics of a popular song. Also in this we can see an example of the pirate and the plagiarist who would attempt to sound similarly to the popular artist, rather than try for their own style and material. In itself it does not have consequences worth a mention, but it does hold key characteristics which would be better corrected for the sake of this deficit we are working with.

Four and five star hotels: Economically there is an equation one can make within their own country (or the country that they are staying in) - and it goes as follows: considering the wealth of the populace establish just what percentage do you yourself belong to. For example, if in your country you happen to be in the wealthiest five percent or that sector, or that which financially groups in the fifty percent bracket - calculate by that of your holdings, savings and investments, how do you qualify? If you leave your home environment to stay overnight elsewhere, then it is preferable that you experience life as your countrymen live. (By countrymen it is meant whatever country you are in at the time.)

If you are in the top ten percent of the wealthy we suggest that for every one night spent in a four or five star residence you spend nine other nights in places which are considerably less embellished. From this you may receive an initial picture into life outside that of your own dwelling, and consider well what it is that the folk who live around you have provided. If you are of the ten percent poorest, then if the opportunity arises, you may stay for nine nights in such comfortable places, and one in the lesser. This is just a suggestion, but does offer the idea that many individuals all too easily divorce themselves from the realities of the economy that they live in, and simply because they themselves can afford a particular lifestyle does not mean that in the long run it is helpful for themselves to indulge in it. When we are out in the world it befits us to live as our brother does - not to the point of such poverty as starvation, but in respect to those conditions and standards which make up his worldly life. There is much to be well learned by this.

The parrot speak of popular wisdoms detracts from the firsthand experience one can offer in the world. When we exchange ideas from one to another it is often the ‘tired line’ that puts an end to the conversation - you can see it, just how many times the communication is ceased by that one popular remark which is relatively lifeless in the delivery.

The more conscious we are in the thinking, in the choosing of the words, in the freshness of the ideas and inspiration - all of these things contribute to a lively and meaning-full exchange - and it is this which other individuals do hunger for from us. It is true that common phrases are used as ‘openers’ to further talk etc. but are also the keynotes to closure when repeated again thereafter. This can be observed.

It goes without saying that managerial positions are too difficult for those who are economically unsound. It is almost impossible for such an individual (until they have made progress) to comprehend just how and what they are managing when they have not the wherewithal to conceptualize the entire ecology of transactions before them. If they are placed with such responsibility it will invariably lead to further temptations of personal gain (as seen in local governments etc.) - and given the circumstances may almost become predictably corrupted. Therefore it is unwise for such involvements until the strength is manifest and the capability assured.

Chapter 5- Economy: Prayer

A Prayer for the Economical Mercurius

With all that

That comprises me

Within me and about me

Below me and above me

Entwined in today

The me from before

The me yet to be

The obvious me

The unseen me

The me that is we ...

I pray out from this wholeness

Asking that I may find

The cohesive divinity

In all.

Amen

Chapter 5- Economy

CHAPTER 5

Economy

Dietary Exercise Suggested:

(To be incorporated within the usual routine)

The making of breads, cakes, pizzas, porridges, soups, stews; all dishes which are comprised of a compound of ingredients, all going together to make the one.

Table manners to be learnt and put to practice (yes, even formal table manners for the etiquette-ritual-dance of it within the table society).

Commentary:

As the science of Economy foremostly teaches one of the outcomes from interdependent exchange, we may experience this in those foods which are combinations in recipe - proving just what this form of harmonizing can bring; and hopefully, deliciously!

When we ‘break bread together’ this is done in the spirit of such combining being recognized. The single unit in which our friendship or society may go to form, is of course part of that greater whole, the larger community of the Humanity which is of this World. Then, also we may add, the Humanity and its friends who have supported us from the past, yet whose presence might not be at the ‘table’ with us - though being those generations who have preceded that of our own. The men and women from which this world has grown, we can acknowledge also.

We can be mindful of this in the simple enjoyment of taking the individual ingredients and finding the order in which they are introduced to one another - watching the cake rise, the bread bake - and the pleasure that it brings to others in the eating. As simple as it may sound, these are examples of the tasks which were once given to every household to take into their consciousness and live with daily. In this, individuals have been self-taught in the past, in the basic and solid virtues shown to them firsthand since they were very young, yet old enough to stir a mixture.

With the invention of the ‘cake-mix’ (where all of the ingredients except the fluids are together in the one box) there also became a ‘shrewdness’ which was not hitherto known to the otherwise straightforward economy within the household - sadly a departure, because the process was now denied to the baker in its entirety, and it therefore became something of a nonsense to the consciousness thereafter.

Boys and girls will grow up believing that much economy around them can also be premixed in part - that certain steps, procedures and participants do not have to be known, but just incorporated by someone else, somewhere, regardless. They are now content not to know, and not even to be able to conceptualize a process in the whole.

For us to appreciate every component that contributes we must firstly perceive its existence. The manager who does not know his foreman’s staff personally cannot appreciate the enterprise he has or could have to make a complete and prosperous business. It adds to yet a further lacking in the awareness, which in this instance will reflect in the overall attitude and prosperity throughout all transactions to follow.

The practice of table manners is beneficial in two aspects: in the attitude it predisposes the participants to, and in the joy of a table community taking part in something together.

Routines usually assist us to conduct ourselves without the same conscious effort it might require if we did differently each time, but in respect to those routines which are conjointly conducted there is actually a keener consciousness resulting from the act.

An example of this is in tea drinking. Think of those times in which you have taken a tea-bag or infuser and hurriedly, without formality, added the water and so forth - now, compare this with the full entourage of tea-set and tray, and the deliberate, orderly, mindfully, and even gingerly way this beverage is produced - and compare the flavor and the awareness - the awareness leading up to and during the savoring of that drink. And so we may prove to ourselves that just by adopting certain well thought out rituals at the meal table we may also enhance the entire experience of that which we have.

An enjoyable task can be to design such table politics according to each and their suitability - to depart from the Victorian ethos of behaviour and make-up an entirely new set of ordinances to be observed. They may be as simple as agreeing to who sets the table and whether or not it is acceptable to fart in the company of others. For the economically unsound there can be this introductory conceptualization, just in the exercise of examining the table community in this manner.

Mathematics: Weaknesses Transformed into Strengths

Characteristic Weaknesses Transformed into Strengths:

Virtues are natural to Man, and when desired, when called upon, when prayed for sincerely, deliberately and needfully induced, their messengers will beckon, and their characteristics shall be grafted to our being. The weakness shall be restored into that which it was originally destined to become, as follows:

Anarchy shall become itself, fully grown, in Freedom. Freedom provides us with the space necessary to become more than we already are, and whilst anarchy is confusing in its action upon the individual who is suffering from its incoherency, it shall be freedom itself that will alleviate much of this confusion, leading them further onto Truth.

All cosmic principles are accompanied by their cosmic virtues. The principle here is that of Law, whilst the characteristic virtue gift it brings complements it with the necessary Freedom. If it were not for this complementary action within the spiritual nature of Man then there should not be the possibility of evolutionary development, enlightenment or self-made decision making about him. This is no contradiction to have the two made strong within the one - in the purest of terms it is made possible through Christ, and He alone.

Suicide shall transform into the ability to comprehend the correct value and assess it relatively, objectively and informedly. Wherever the forfeiting of life occurs (in any death process of which there are many apart from the fast act of a suicide) there is an inability to discover and know well the correct value of that we are devaluing by our inconsiderateness. If the true and correct value was ascertained well in the first instance there would be no possibility of our forsaking it and allowing it to pass (or allowing it to corrupt, or desist, or prematurely die).

Nihilism shall be contrasted by that of true confidence and self image made good. When our outer life is perceived by us to be sadly less than it is, it is moreover the case that we are predisposing it to that of our own reckoning about ourselves and all within. It is difficult for someone who cannot interpret immediately the intelligent workings of the life around them to sense the extraordinary intelligence and value about themselves.

And so the profile becomes that of a Champion to both the Law and to Freedom; indifferent to the protesters to life, motivated by a higher causality, protector of the treasured-most-beauty, fair, accurate and exact to the mark: The Knight of the Mathematical Reasoning.

Chapter 4- Mathematics: Contemplation

CONTEMPLATION

In the painter’s verdant landscape

One feels the homely warmth

In the red-roofed cottage aptly placed.

Though music’s listener's ear may not wish to know,

We can be sure within the mystery,

Each new octave trips in at note number eight,

And E sharp and C flat

are never there.

And we can muse,

The rainbow’s seven hues,

Live unplanned in the C.D.’s playing side;

Or in each multifariously sized bubble

That makes up the shoreline’s joyous foam.

And oh! What of Man?

There within ...

Calling, shaping, drawing, leading,

Make x the unknown quantity

Yes- + our Christ.

Chapter 4- Mathematics: Exercise 3

Exercise 3

Tools required:

  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • (Alternatively can be drawn in dirt or sand)

Draw a circle. Outside of that circle draw another circle around it without allowing the lines to converge. It does not matter that it becomes slightly irregular, but it is important that its ends meet and that it becomes one uninterrupted line.
Draw a larger circle around the two, and repeat continuously until tired of the exercise.

Chapter 4- Mathematics: Exercise 2

Exercise 2
(Forgiveness exercise)

Tools required:

  • Hatchet [imitation]
  • Cloth (preferably one which strikes remembrance or relevance)
  • Twine or string
  • Spade if needed
  • Rubber gloves if needed
  • Suitable ground for digging
  • Person of trust to accompany exercise
  • Breakfast
  • Wafer & Water (to eat and drink)
  • Ground cover blanket for comfortable sitting

The phrase “to bury the hatchet” did not imply “in our enemies back” but rather to bury it elsewhere other than where we may be sorely tempted to put it. In one sense there is humor to this exercise - for many are familiar with the phrase - and it can make for a saving balance if indeed there is a little lightheartedness accompanying this exercise of grief and of departure.

It is possible to formalize this forgiving in a way which should cancel the properties of obsessive griping within us. Ceremony can be marvelous as that pivotal point from which our futures can begin to change.

The pain and the suffering which accompanies any such grievance as we attempt to put to rest will, in some measure, always bear upon us - yet later become transmuted in Heaven - but it is not that that we seek here to alter, it is our hatred we seek to weaken, our self-scoring we seek to make blunt.

Directions:

(only to be attempted if not homicidal or suicidal please)

In the early hours of the morning (not noon tide or night)

take the hatchet carefully and deliberately place it in the cloth provided.

Bind with string so as to cover the tool comfortably and safely - quite tightly bound.

Find a comfortable position outdoors with person of trust for this exercise and, having taken the abovementioned items, trace a circle onto the ground and place the material-covered hatchet within. Undo the binding and expose the metal.

Proceed to explain to the trusted person the woes of the situation which is causing the grievance. Whilst explaining whatever the sadness or insult which has provoked this constant pain and sore remembrance, place the right hand onto the hatchet and understand that a discharge shall travel up the handle and into the blade (much like the hammer of Thor). Try not to explain how you felt, but keep to the details of any events which caused the feeling. Proceed for as long as it takes - be thorough, not casual, in the remarking.

Now bind the cloth back up again, saying:

I now commit all demons to Christ

to His Keeping and His Regard.

May my unsavory recollections be deposited here,

nevermore to injure any life, anywhere,

but may the goodness in this, the gentle warm earth,

now transform them with new life into new worth.”

Bury the hatchet.

After smoothing down the earth the trusted friend is to administer communion for you both. This can be done by taking the water and the wafer and simply reciting over them:

Blessed Christ be here with us.

In this water, in this bread before us,

be here now, be in part, be in whole,

that it will become in us,

and You shall become in us, as well.

Blessed Christ this is our first sup

after the death of a sadness,

which we now give over to Your Care.

Please release us from the unholy banterings

which have bled from us our happiness.

Prise the corruption from our hearts

and free us into that peace which is forgiveness

that we may settle this bargain once and for all.

Forgive them their trespasses, and us of our own.

May we begin this new breakfast with Your Clarity,

Your Hospitality and Your Law,

the highest law of all - The Law of Love.

Amen

Proceed on with breakfast.
