The Twelve Pathways- Language

Language

Predominant virtues pertaining:
This study teaches us of the ability to see beyond the outer periphery of any given truth presenting and perceive a’further - perhaps to the source - and allow it to teach us of itself.

The virtue here is one of being able to learn, to take in, to be studious and respectful to the master before us. To know what is worthy of our learning and to be choosy.

This is a virtue of not only comparative thinking and of limericks amongst the text; but also of decoding the abbreviated truth. These words convey something of the idea, but it requires your imaginative abilities to supersensibly divine the rest. This is a virtue of inquiry and of subsequent finding.

Major problems associated:

  • Multiple personalities - inability to discriminate self amongst the available input of other ideas and information
  • Black magic practices (which sustain the beings behind the archaic words of worship)

Minor disorders associated with a deficit:

  • Untruthfulness (to self as well as to others)
  • Deception (misuse of words and misrepresentation)
  • Charismatic talking (inciting people with an unworthy use of words promoting sales or self interest)
  • Blaspheming

To one who understands the sense of speech
The world unveils
Its image form.

To one who listens to the soul of speech
The world unfolds
Its true being.

To one who lives in the spirit depths of speech
The world gives freely
Wisdom’s strength.

To one who lovingly can dwell on speech
Speech will accord
Its inner might.

So I will turn my heart and mind
Toward the soul
And spirit of words.

In love for them
I will then feel myself
Complete and whole.

- Rudolf Steiner
